The two-sided problem
A marketplace is worthless to each side until the other side is present. Candidates leave when there are no jobs; employers leave when there are no candidates. Every two-sided product has to solve this, and no amount of interface polish substitutes for solving it.
What we built
- Structured listings - job type, salary, language, contract length
- Candidate profiles quick to complete and useful to read
- Application tracking usable by both sides of the transaction
- Employer tooling for pipeline management
- Messaging with the abuse controls a hiring context requires
Structured data beats free text
The single biggest improvement was making listings structured rather than a paragraph of prose. Salary, contract type and language became real fields. That makes search precise, filtering trustworthy and matching explainable - and it forces employers to state a salary, which candidates consistently rank as the thing they most want to know.
Fairness is a design concern
Hiring tools influence livelihoods. Ranking signals were chosen deliberately, and proxies that correlate with protected characteristics were kept out of the model rather than left in and hoped about.
