Apple One Family and Premier cost more in 12 European countries, including Spain, Portugal and Switzerland
Apple raised Apple One Family in 12 European countries and Premier in three on 5 October. Individual is unchanged. The old and new prices, and who loses out.
Apple raised the price of Apple One Family in 12 European countries and Apple One Premier in three of them on 5 October.
According to MacRumors, Family went up in Belgium, Bulgaria, Czechia, Denmark, Hungary, Latvia, Malta, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Switzerland, and Premier in Portugal, Spain and Switzerland. Apple is emailing subscribers. The new prices apply at once to new subscribers and at the next renewal for existing ones. Apple One Individual is unchanged everywhere.
What do the Apple One plans cost now?
APPDOOK compared Apple's own Apple One pages on 5 October with archived copies from 19 to 22 September. Monthly prices:
Country | Family, before | Family, now | Premier, before | Premier, now |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Spain | €25.95 | €27.95 | €34.95 | €36.95 |
Portugal | €21.95 | €23.95 | €30.95 | €32.95 |
Switzerland | CHF 31.90 | CHF 33.90 | CHF 40.90 | CHF 42.90 |
Denmark | 239 kr | 259 kr | Not listed | Not listed |
Hungary | 5,990 Ft | 6,290 Ft | Not listed | Not listed |
Individual stays at €19.95 in Spain, €16.95 in Portugal and CHF 23.90 in Switzerland. In Spain the Family rise is 7.7 per cent and the Premier rise 5.7 per cent. Applesfera, which first reported the Spanish prices, gives the Family rise as 12 per cent, but €2 on €25.95 is 7.7, and other Spanish outlets give that figure too.
MacRumors says this is at least the third round of Apple One rises this year, after Family and Premier went up in the US, the UK, Canada, Australia and other countries, and Individual in the US, Brazil, Chile and Mexico. In Spain, Applesfera counts this as the third rise since Apple One launched there, after 2022 and 2023.
Is Apple One Family still worth it?
Apple's Spanish page says Family saves €12.01 a month against paying for its services separately, and Premier €20. Those savings assume a household uses every service. Our own arithmetic, from the separate Spanish prices on Apple's page, gives a different answer for a family that mainly uses two of them.
Apple Music Family at €19.99 plus 200GB of iCloud+ at €2.99 comes to €22.98 a month. Family now costs €27.95, so a household that does not watch Apple TV or play Apple Arcade pays €4.97 a month for them. Before Monday that premium was €2.97. With Premier, Music Family plus 2TB of iCloud+ is €29.98 against €36.95, so the other three services, Apple TV, Arcade and Fitness+, have to be worth €6.97 a month. In Spain, Premier carries no Apple News+, which is not offered there.
APPDOOK's view is that the rise is small and still worth checking. The households most likely to be overpaying are the ones that joined Apple One for Music and storage and never opened Arcade. For them, two separate subscriptions are now clearly cheaper. The 200GB to 2TB jump is the other trap, as we found when we looked at the gap between iCloud's 200GB and 2TB tiers: Family includes the smaller tier, and moving up means Premier or a separate plan.
iCloud+ custom email domains now allow 10 addresses each
In a smaller change to the same subscription, Apple has raised the number of addresses iCloud+ subscribers can create on a custom email domain. Its support document, dated 30 September, now says up to five custom domains with up to 10 personalised addresses per domain. An archived copy from 31 August said three per domain. The page also says each person a domain is shared with can create up to 10 addresses. 9to5Mac reported the change on 5 October, crediting the researcher pdfu.
This is separate from the rise to nine @icloud.com aliases that MacRumors spotted the same day, and it differs in one useful way: Apple has documented this one. For a small business or a family on its own domain, ten addresses per domain is the difference between rationing them and giving everyone one. Unlike the price rise, it applies to every iCloud+ plan, including iCloud+ inside Apple One.
