Apple TV+ October 2026: Matchbox, Tenzing and a K2 documentary open a busy month
Apple TV+ has set its October schedule, including Matchbox The Movie on 9 October, Tenzing on the 16th and Where's Wanda? Season 2 on the 21st.
Apple TV+ has published its October 2026 schedule, opening the month on 2 October and closing it with Nocturne on the 30th.
9to5Mac gathered the full line-up on 1 October. The month begins with two titles on 2 October: The Last First: Winter K2, a documentary following the team that made the first winter ascent of K2 in 2021, and The Sisters Grimm Season 2, a family series about two orphaned sisters navigating a town populated by fairy-tale characters. On 7 October, Mackenzie Crook's comedy Small Prophets premieres. On 9 October Matchbox The Movie arrives: an action film starring John Cena, inspired by the Mattel toy brand, about a CIA agent and his childhood friends. Tenzing, a drama about Tenzing Norgay's 1953 Everest expedition alongside Edmund Hillary, follows on 16 October. Where's Wanda? Season 2, the German-language dark comedy about parents searching for their missing daughter, opens on 21 October. Nocturne, a crime drama about a former soldier turned detective, closes the month on 30 October.
Ongoing series continue through October. Ted Lasso, Slow Horses, Dark Matter, Last Seen and Brothers all deliver new episodes this month, according to 9to5Mac.
Small Prophets and Nocturne were reported here in September. We covered Apple's announcement of both shows and the renewal of Carême when dates were first confirmed. The fuller October schedule fills in the rest of the month.
Free classic films with no subscription needed
Separately, on 1 October Apple added a fresh batch of classic films to the free tier of the Apple TV app. The free tier - sometimes described as Apple TV Free - carries films and shows supported by advertising, with no Apple TV+ subscription required. MacRumors and AppleInsider both reported the update on 1 October; neither published a full list of the new titles, and Apple has not announced them separately.
What does October say about Apple TV+?
October is a denser release month than Apple TV+ typically schedules. Matchbox The Movie, Tenzing, a German-language dark comedy returning for a second series, a family fairy-tale show and a K2 documentary all land within three weeks, aimed at audiences with almost nothing in common. That breadth is a change from the service's first years, when it ran a small number of high-budget originals with gaps between them.
Matchbox The Movie is the most commercially legible entry. John Cena, a recognisable toy brand, and an action-adventure plot is a formula Mattel and Paramount proved with Barbie and Transformers. Apple TV+ has not previously had a direct entry in that category of broadly marketed event film, and Matchbox will be a test of whether the service's distribution - on every Apple device and available as a subscription channel add-on - can compete for that audience without a theatrical release to drive awareness.
Tenzing carries different appeal. A true story about the most famous mountain ascent in history, told from Tenzing Norgay's perspective, arrives in the awards-season window and has the shape of the prestige historical drama that built Apple TV+'s early reputation.
APPDOOK's observation is that Where's Wanda? Season 2 is the quietest signal about what the service is becoming. A German-language dark comedy returning for a second series had no equivalent in Apple TV+'s catalogue two years ago. Scheduling a foreign-language original in a renewal cycle suggests it performed well enough to justify a follow-on, which is harder to pull off than a single-series commission. That matters beyond one show: it means Apple TV+ is building international programming that holds an audience past a first run, and October's schedule shows all three of those content strategies running at once.
