Apple TV will premiere Prodigies, a romantic comedy series starring Will Sharpe and Ayo Edebiri, on Wednesday 10 February 2027.

Apple released the first images on 9 October. The season runs to seven episodes: two arrive on the premiere date and the rest follow weekly, every Wednesday, until 17 March 2027, Apple TV Press said. The series streams worldwide on the same day.

What is Prodigies about?

Edebiri plays Didi and Sharpe plays Ren, two former child prodigies now in their 30s who have been a couple since they were nine. In Apple's description they set out to reexamine that relationship, in a story that moves from London to Tokyo by way of Virginia. Apple calls it an unconventional take on a romantic comedy, and when it ordered the show in April 2025 said it challenges what it called the fallacy at the heart of romantic storytelling.

Sharpe, a BAFTA winner whom 9to5Mac introduces as the star of The White Lotus, created, wrote and directed the series and is an executive producer through his company Fukuda Films. Edebiri, from The Bear and Bottoms, co-stars and is also an executive producer. The supporting cast is John Malkovich, Tobias Menzies, Yumi Aso, Maria Bakalova, Sophia Di Martino, Rina Sawayama, Reece Shearsmith, Meera Syal and Andrene Ward-Hammond.

It is made by the London production company SISTER, with Naomi De Pear, Katie Carpenter and Jane Featherstone as executive producers. The release links the series to Apple's own originals listing, and nothing in it suggests a licensed show. Apple has not released a trailer, and the cast's roles beyond the two leads are not given.

Why February, and why it took so long

Apple announced the series 18 months before its premiere, and most of the supporting cast was reported in the trade press between May and August 2025. 9to5Mac reads the 10 February date as Apple's Valentine's Day offering for 2027, which fits the genre, though Apple's release does not make that link itself.

Our take

Prodigies continues a pattern in where Apple TV now finds its comedy. A large share of its recent orders are British-made, writer-led shows: Apple has just commissioned The Choir from Ruth Jones and James Corden, and Mackenzie Crook's Small Prophets reached the service to near-unanimous praise. Prodigies is the same model with a bigger cast: one creator who writes, directs and stars, a London production company, and an American co-lead.

That is a different bet from the one Apple made with Dustfall, an Australian drama it bought rather than commissioned. Prodigies is an original from the start, which is the more expensive route and the one Apple still uses for the shows it most wants to be known for.

APPDOOK's reading is that the release date says more than the images. Apple releases most of its series weekly, and a seven-week run from mid-February to mid-March gives the show room to build word of mouth through a quiet part of the TV year. Whether a comedy about a couple examining a relationship they started at nine works as anything more than a premise is the thing no first-look still can tell you, and the reviews in February will.
