Apple's iPhone Duo and Google's Pixel 11 Pro Fold are the two big foldables a buyer can choose between this month, and they differ more than their category suggests.

The Pixel went on sale on 20 August. The Duo opens for pre-order on 16 October at 5am Pacific and arrives on 23 October in the US, the UK and more than 70 countries, shipping with iOS 27.1. This comparison is built from Apple's and Google's own specification and store pages, read on 10 October.

How do the prices compare?

In the US, the Pixel is 100 dollars cheaper at 256GB, 180 dollars cheaper at 512GB and 350 dollars cheaper at 1TB. Only the Duo comes with 2TB. In the UK the gap is 200 pounds at every shared size.

Which foldable should you buy?

The shape is the first decision. Apple made the Duo short and wide: closed, it is 118mm tall, close to a small phone, and opens to a 7.6-inch screen nearer the proportions of a book. The Pixel is a conventional tall phone when closed, with a 6.5-inch outer screen that is far easier to use one-handed for typing. If you mostly use a foldable closed, the Pixel's outside screen is the more normal phone. If you mostly use it open, the Duo's wider shape suits reading and video.

The camera is the clearest gap. The Duo has no telephoto lens at all; Apple gets a 2x view by cropping the main sensor and quotes 4x optical-quality zoom across the range. The Pixel has a real 5x telephoto. For anyone who photographs people at a distance, that decides it.

Other differences favour each side. Apple quotes up to 44 hours of video playback on the outer screen, where Google gives a 24 hours or more figure for general use, and Apple includes satellite messaging and Find My free for two years, where Google lists Satellite SOS only. Google promises seven years of updates; Apple publishes no figure but has a long record. The Duo has no Action Button or mute switch, and Apple Pencil support, for the USB-C Pencil, arrives later this year rather than at launch.

Our take

For someone already on an iPhone, the Pixel's lower price is less of a saving than it looks, because switching platform costs more than 100 dollars in apps, iMessage and accessories. For someone choosing freely, the Pixel is the more complete phone today: cheaper, lighter, a telephoto, and on sale now.

The Duo's case rests on things neither spec sheet can settle yet. Apple has given no fold-cycle rating for its hinge, and its hardware chief asked to be held to account on the crease; Google gives none either. Apple does publish one repair price that matters for a folding screen: a 19 dollar replacement of the inner cover layer with AppleCare+. We compared the Duo with Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold8 and Fold8 Ultra last week, and the conclusion is similar. APPDOOK's advice is to wait for the first reviews of how the Duo's crease and battery hold up in daily use before paying the higher price.
