Gurman: Apple will host Los Angeles creator events on 27 and 28 October for its new Macs and iPad mini

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman says Apple is planning influencer events in Los Angeles on the evening of 27 October and on 28 October for its Mac launch.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman says Apple is preparing events for influencers in Los Angeles around its late October Mac and iPad mini launch.

Gurman posted the detail on X on the evening of 11 October, UK time, quoting his own 8 October Bloomberg report that set 27 October for the launch. He says the events run "on the evening of Oct. 27 and across the day of Oct. 28." In the grading we use for leaks, this is Reported: a named journalist with a long Apple record, with no document shown. MacRumors and Appleosophy relayed the post on 12 October, so it is one source repeated. Apple has said nothing about a second launch this month.

Is it a two-day Apple event?

Not in the usual sense. MacRumors calls it a two-day product showcase, but Gurman's own wording is one evening and one full day, and his audience is influencers rather than a press keynote. MacRumors quotes him comparing it with the experience Apple is holding in New York on 13 October. Appleosophy expects Apple to announce the products by press release first, as it did with its M4 Macs in October 2024; Apple's M4 MacBook Pro press release went out on 30 October that year.

That timing has a practical consequence. If people are handling the machines on the evening of 27 October, the announcements would have to land by that day at the latest, which fits the 27 October date Bloomberg gave last week.

Which products are expected?

The list has not changed since Bloomberg's 8 October report, which we covered when it named 27 October for the touchscreen MacBook Pro and OLED iPad mini. MacRumors sums it up as three Macs and an iPad: 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with OLED touchscreens, an M6 entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro, an M6 iMac in new colours, and an iPad mini with an OLED display and an A20 Pro. MacRumors adds the Mac Studio with 512GB of memory, which it reported in August as due in late October. 9to5Mac's preview of the M6 MacBook Pro repeats Apple's own M6 specifications from August, including a 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU on a 2nm process.

Our take

The Los Angeles detail is small, but it fills in what the 27 October date left open. Apple is not planning a keynote, and it is putting the machines in front of video and photo creators, in the city where much of that work is done. That matches Bloomberg's earlier report that the launch is pitched at video, photo and music professionals. A touchscreen Mac is a product people have to see used, and Apple appears to want creators showing it rather than a stage presentation.

It also follows the pattern Apple is using this month. The Welcome home launch in New York is an invitation-only event rather than a streamed keynote, and Gurman describes Los Angeles in the same terms. Two launches two weeks apart, both built around hands-on time, suggests Apple has decided that is how it introduces products that need demonstrating.

What remains unconfirmed is the product list, and that is where APPDOOK would be cautious. One launch with a base M6 in the cheaper MacBook Pro and M5 Pro and M5 Max chips in the touchscreen models would be unusual, and the event detail does not settle it. The announcement itself, expected by 27 October, will.
