Apple's code points to an A19 iPad with 8GB of memory, bringing Apple Intelligence to the cheapest iPad

Apple code shows the next entry-level iPad with an A19, 8GB of memory, N1 and a C1X modem, enough for Apple Intelligence. Bloomberg says spring.

Code in Apple's software describes the next entry-level iPad with an A19 chip and 8GB of memory, according to MacRumors.

The details were found by Aaron Perris, a MacRumors contributor, and published on 25 September. The code lists four components: the A19, 8GB of memory, Apple's N1 wireless chip and its C1X cellular modem on the cellular model. 9to5Mac drew the reporting together on 3 October with a release window. Every other outlet we traced repeats MacRumors' finding rather than adding to it, so this is one source, though a strong kind: Apple's own code, the grade of leak we call evidence.

Apple has said nothing about a new iPad. The current model, which MacRumors calls the iPad 11, uses an A16 with 6GB of memory and is the one device in Apple's main line-up that cannot run Apple Intelligence. Apple raised its starting price from 349 to 449 dollars in June, as part of the memory-driven price rises across its range.

Yes, at the 8GB minimum

The code says nothing about the display, the design, colours, the port or the price. MacRumors expects the price to stay at 449 dollars, and suggests new colours are possible; both are its expectations, not anything in the code. 9to5Mac adds that 8GB is enough for Siri AI but not for Apple's most capable on-device models or its advanced dictation, which it says need 12GB. Apple's own iPhone Duo page does set a 12GB floor for some iPad and Mac features, which fits.

When will the A19 iPad come out?

Not this year. 9to5Mac cites Bloomberg's Mark Gurman for a spring 2027 release, alongside an M6 MacBook Air and a second MacBook Neo, which is reported rather than evidenced. MacRumors says the same and adds that the iPad mini is the iPad expected before the end of October. It is the same pattern as the iPad mini 8, where Apple's code settled the chip and left much of the rest to rumour: a reliable specification and a soft date.

Our take

If the code is right, and code leaks of this kind have a good record, the significance is less about speed than about a gap closing. Since Apple Intelligence arrived, the cheapest iPad has been the one Apple tablet a buyer could pick up in a shop and find that half the features on the posters did not work. Apple has spent two years building Apple Intelligence into its marketing, Siri AI included, while selling an iPad that could run none of it. An A19 with 8GB ends that, at the bottom of the range.

The 8GB matters more than the chip. It is exactly the minimum, which means the new iPad will get Apple Intelligence on day one and is likely to be the first to miss whatever needs more memory next. Buyers who keep an iPad for five or six years, which is how this model is often bought, should weigh that. At APPDOOK we would read the 449 dollar price and the 8GB together as Apple's statement of who this iPad is for: households and classrooms that want the features now, not people planning for 2031.

Schools are the buyers to watch. The entry-level iPad is Apple's education machine, and a Texas district has just leased 14,585 MacBook Neo laptops and iPads to replace Chromebooks. For deals like that, an iPad that cannot run the assistant Apple advertises is a harder sell than one that can, and the C1X modem's efficiency matters for cellular units used away from Wi-Fi.

What would change our view: anything that contradicts the code, such as a later build listing a different chip, or Apple holding the iPad back past spring because of the memory shortage 9to5Mac links to its delay. For anyone deciding today, the current A16 iPad remains a capable tablet at the same price, and a poor purchase if Apple Intelligence is the reason for buying.
