The iPadOS 27.2 beta adds the Mac's Siri text pop-up for iPads with a trackpad, and Apple TV app profiles

In the iPadOS 27.2 beta, selecting text with a trackpad or mouse brings up a Siri prompt for proofreading and rewriting, as it does on the Mac.

The iPadOS 27.2 beta shows a small Siri pop-up when text is selected with a trackpad or mouse, a feature that came to the Mac first.

9to5Mac described it on 1 October from the public beta. Selecting text brings up a Siri icon beside the selection; hovering over it expands it into an Ask Siri text field with suggestions such as proofreading or rewriting the passage. The feature does not appear when text is selected by touch, according to 9to5Mac. Apple has not described it in public documentation. iThinkDiff's report on the public beta also says iPadOS 27.2 brings over a Siri feature that had been exclusive to the Mac, but the detail here comes from 9to5Mac's hands-on testing.

Apple TV app profiles come to iPad

The second addition is profiles in the Apple TV app, which Apple TV hardware already had. Opening the app asks who is watching, and each profile keeps its own Up Next queue, history and recommendations. Child profiles follow the age limits already set in Screen Time. iThinkDiff reported the profiles in the iPadOS and macOS 27.2 public betas on 23 September, alongside redesigned sliders, and we noted the same profiles when the iOS 27.2 beta brought back Messages Suggestions.

When does iPadOS 27.2 come out, and which iPads get it?

9to5Mac expects the release later in October and iThinkDiff expects it in October on every platform; Apple has given no date. Neither outlet lists which iPads get the Siri pop-up. Because it offers writing tools through Siri, it is reasonable to expect it to need an iPad that supports Apple Intelligence, but no source confirms that. The same release is due to bring the redesigned Health app and Siri AI in five more languages.

Our take

Small as it is, the trackpad condition says something about where Apple sees the iPad going. A pop-up tied to pointer selection, and not to touch, is a Mac behaviour, built for people using the iPad with a keyboard and trackpad as a laptop. That is the group Apple has been courting since iPadOS 26 brought proper windows, and the group most likely to want writing tools close at hand.

It also tidies up an inconsistency. Apple Intelligence writing tools have been reachable on iPad through the edit menu since they launched, but getting to them took several taps. A prompt that appears beside the selection makes the feature visible to people who never looked for it.

APPDOOK's view is that the profiles are the change more households will notice. A shared iPad with one Up Next queue, filled with a child's cartoons and an adult's dramas, was a small daily annoyance, and 27.2 ends it. Both features are beta behaviour for now, and either can change before release.
