iOS 27.2 beta 3 code adds a separate switch for each Suggested Action in Messages

Code in iOS 27.2 beta 3 adds a switch for each Messages Suggested Action and a way to hide unused ones after 30 days. What it shows, and what is unknown.

Code in the third beta of iOS 27.2 contains a settings screen that lets people switch off each kind of Suggested Action in Messages on its own, a code explorer known as pdfu has found.

pdfu posted a screenshot of the screen on X on 5 October. MacRumors reads five separate switches in it: Add to Calendar, Add to Reminders, Add to Notes, Show in Maps, and Flights and Packages. A sixth switch, Hide Unused Suggestions, stops showing any suggestion that has not been used for 30 days, and MacRumors says a hidden suggestion comes back if its own switch is turned off and on again.

This is Evidence grade, from one source. MacRumors and 9to5Mac both credit pdfu and both work from the same screenshot; neither says it has used the controls. 9to5Mac reports that they are not yet active in the beta. Apple has said nothing about them.

What are Suggested Actions in Messages?

They are one-tap buttons that Messages offers based on what a conversation says: add an invitation to Calendar, turn a request into a reminder or a note, or open a photo search when someone asks for pictures. The feature was in the first iOS 27 betas and was removed before iOS 27 shipped; 9to5Mac says some suggestions had been rather random. We reported when Messages Suggestions came back in the first iOS 27.2 beta, with Apple's description and nothing yet about how to turn individual suggestions off.

Where the two reports differ

9to5Mac describes the hide option as Siri AI watching which suggestions a person uses and hiding the rest. MacRumors, reading the same screenshot, describes a 30 day rule and does not mention Siri AI. Nothing we have seen shows which is right, so we describe it as a timer on unused suggestions and nothing more.

The photo suggestion is also missing from MacRumors' list of switches. Whether it gets its own control, sits under another heading or cannot be turned off separately is not clear from either report.

When could iOS 27.2 ship?

Apple released the iOS 27.2 beta ahead of any iOS 27.1 beta, which MacRumors attributes to iPhone Duo shipping with iOS 27.1 on 23 October. Apple has said the new Siri AI languages in iOS 27.2 arrive in October, so MacRumors expects iOS 27.2 shortly after iPhone Duo goes on sale. Code that appears in a beta does not always ship, and this screen is not switched on yet.

Our take

Per-category switches are the right answer to the problem that got the feature pulled. A single on and off forces a choice between all suggestions and none, and the people annoyed by a Notes button under every shopping list may still want the Calendar one under an invitation. Five switches let them keep the useful part.

Hide Unused Suggestions is the more interesting idea. It is an interface that retires its own buttons when they are ignored, which is a quieter fix than asking people to find a settings page. Its weakness is the reverse case: a suggestion someone needs twice a year, such as a flight, may vanish between trips, and the way back is a toggle few people would think to flip.

For app makers, one detail stands out. Every category in the screenshot is a destination Apple controls. Third-party apps reach people in Messages by other routes, as DoorDash did with an AI agent that takes food orders by text, but nothing reported so far lets an app offer its own one-tap suggestion here. APPDOOK reads the switches as a sign Apple is making the feature less intrusive before opening it wider, if it ever does. Until Apple documents it, that remains our reading rather than a plan anyone has announced.
