iOS 27.2 beta 4 removes the redesigned Health app, and keeps the data testers added(you are reading this)
Apple's fourth developer beta of iOS 27.2, released on 13 October, removes the redesigned Health app that the first three betas carried.
Testers who install beta 4 get the previous Health app back. A popup says the new features will arrive in a future update, and according to 9to5Mac the Longevity section is replaced by the old Sharing section. Both 9to5Mac and MacRumors report that health data recorded during the beta is kept and can be viewed in the Settings app.
What was in the redesigned Health app?
Apple announced the new Health app at its September iPhone event and put it in the first iOS 27.2 developer beta, then in the first two public betas. It added Insights and Longevity tabs, a Health Age figure comparing your fitness metrics with your actual age, and lab test ordering through Quest Diagnostics in the United States. All of that leaves the beta with this build.
When will the new Health app ship?
Apple's note in beta 4 says the release is still planned for this year, according to 9to5Mac. MacRumors points out that Apple had already said the redesign would not arrive until late 2026. 9to5Mac expects it in an iOS 27.3 beta in late October or early November; that is the outlet's reading, not something Apple has said.
The rest of the 13 October betas
- iPadOS 27.2, watchOS 27.2, visionOS 27.2 and the other 27.2 releases reached beta 4 the same day. 9to5Mac expects bug fixes rather than features at this stage.
- The third public betas of iOS 27.2 and macOS Golden Gate 27.2 followed that evening, with the iPadOS 27.2 public beta shortly after.
- macOS Sequoia 15.8.2 and macOS Tahoe 26.7.2 reached a second release candidate, builds 24H225 and 25G325. The notes mention only security fixes.
- New AirPods beta firmware, build 9B5043a, reached AirPods Pro 2, AirPods Pro 3, AirPods 4, AirPods 5 and AirPods Max 2. Apple publishes no notes for AirPods betas.
Our take
This is the outcome we described in September, when the rebuilt Health app appeared in the first iOS 27.2 beta while Apple's own notes said it would not ship in 27.2. Removing a finished-looking feature in the last beta before release is how Apple keeps a point release on schedule, and iOS 27.2 has a fixed date to meet: MacRumors notes that the HomePod mini 2 launches on 30 October running 27.2 software.
The careful part is the data. Testers who logged lab results or Longevity data have not lost it, which matters more than the feature slipping a few weeks. APPDOOK's advice to anyone on the beta is to check that Settings shows what they recorded before relying on it, and not to book Quest tests through the Health app until the redesign returns.
For app makers who read HealthKit data, the old app's behaviour is what ships in 27.2. Anything built against the redesign's new categories should wait for the release that actually carries it.
