tvOS 27.2 beta 3 adds Apple Intelligence settings text, as the new Apple TV nears

Code in the third tvOS 27.2 beta adds an Improve Siri and Apple Intelligence setting and a Siri Messages framework. What it shows about the next Apple TV.

Code in the third tvOS 27.2 beta, released to developers on 5 October, adds settings text for Apple Intelligence to the Apple TV for the first time.

MacRumors found a new option in the tvOS Settings app labelled Improve Siri & Apple Intelligence. Its description begins "Help improve foundation models and Siri" and goes on to ask permission to collect text and audio from Siri, Dictation and Translate. AppleInsider reports the same text. Apple uses that label only on devices that run Apple Intelligence; on hardware that does not, the equivalent setting is called Improve Siri & Dictation. MacRumors says the new string sits alongside the existing one, which suggests only capable hardware would see it.

The same beta adds a Siri Messages interface framework. Siri on Apple TV cannot read or send messages today, so MacRumors reads it as a sign that Siri AI could show messages from a paired iPhone on the television and offer smart replies. The build is tvOS 27.2 beta 3, 24K5103f, according to AppleInsider.

This is Evidence grade: text in Apple's own beta, found by MacRumors and repeated by AppleInsider, so one find rather than two. Apple has not announced a new Apple TV and has said nothing about Apple Intelligence on the current one.

Which Apple TV would get this?

Not the one on sale. The current Apple TV 4K, released in 2022, uses an A15 Bionic, and Apple has never brought Apple Intelligence to a device with that chip. 9to5Mac points to an AppleTV18,1 identifier that Aaron Perris found in Apple code earlier, a numbering that matches the A19 family, and Bloomberg has reported a new Apple TV 4K among the products for 13 October. Our report on Bloomberg's account of the home hub, HomePod mini and Apple TV covers that schedule.

Our take

Settings text is better evidence than most code finds, because it is the part of a feature that has to be written for customers and reviewed for legal wording. Nobody drafts a data-sharing consent for hardware that is not coming. The specific wording also matters. It is the same consent Apple shows on iPhone, which implies the Apple TV would contribute to model training on the same terms, and that tvOS is being treated as a full Apple Intelligence platform rather than a remote screen for an iPhone's Siri.

The Siri Messages framework is weaker evidence and the more interesting idea. Messages on a television is a privacy question before it is a feature: a living room screen is shared, and a reply suggestion that quotes a private conversation in front of guests is a design problem Apple has to solve with profiles. tvOS already has user profiles, and the same 27.2 cycle brings Apple TV app profiles to the iPhone, so the pieces exist. Whether Apple ships it on day one is a separate matter, and code like this often waits a release or two.

One practical point is storage. We reported that Apple Intelligence wants 14GB free on the newest iPhones. An Apple TV running the same models locally needs room for them, which makes the base storage tier of any new model a number worth checking before buying. APPDOOK's view is that anyone shopping for an Apple TV this week should wait the seven days to 13 October: on this evidence, the current box will not get these features.
