Unconfirmed: a leaker says Apple is waiting on a Samsung display that wraps around all four sides of the iPhone

Weibo leaker Instant Digital claims Apple is waiting on a Samsung OLED that bends 90 degrees to form the phone's sides. Nothing corroborates it.

A Weibo account known as Instant Digital claimed on 7 October that Apple is waiting for Samsung to finish a display that bends down on all four sides to become the sides of the iPhone itself.

The claim is Unverified grade. It comes from one anonymous social media account, MacRumors is so far the only outlet to report it, and nothing corroborates it. We could not load the original post, so the details below are as MacRumors gives them. Apple has said nothing, as it never does about unannounced products.

What does the leaker describe?

According to the post, Samsung calls the technology internally a full-surround, full-screen display. The main screen stays flat, unlike the curved waterfall screens some Android phones have used. Instead the OLED panel bends sharply, at close to 90 degrees, along all four edges and around the corners, so that the bent sections replace the metal or plastic frame. Wiring normally hidden under the bezels would move to those edges, and the leaker says the design could allow an iPhone without mechanical buttons.

The post also lists what Samsung has not yet solved: distortion and colour shifts at the corners, keeping the OLED's protective sealing intact through such tight bends, and finding room for antennas when every side is covered in screen. The leaker presents the 20th-anniversary iPhone expected in 2027 as a possible intermediate step, not as the phone that gets this panel.

How does it fit with earlier reports on the 2027 iPhone?

Badly in places, which is itself informative. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said in May 2025 that the 2027 iPhone would be mostly glass and curved, with no cutouts in the display. A different Weibo account, Digital Chat Station, said in April this year that Samsung is making a custom panel with shallow, equal curves on four sides, which is far gentler than the near right angles described today. The display analyst Ross Young said in January that a true all-screen iPhone was unlikely before about 2030.

The idea itself is not new. Samsung Display showed a flexible OLED bent on all four sides at Display Week in 2017, and Xiaomi showed a concept phone in February 2021 with 88 degree curves on four sides and no buttons or ports, though its corners were not covered by the screen.

Our take

This is the third Instant Digital claim we have reported in three days, after its assertion that Apple once planned 16GB of memory for the iPhone 18 Pro and a post saying an iPad will get much thinner bezels. The account has been right before, on the yellow iPhone 14 in 2023, but none of the three recent claims names a date, a model or a document, and that makes them almost impossible to prove wrong.

Read generously, the post describes a research direction rather than a product. Apple has wanted the screen to be the whole front of the phone since the iPhone X, and Samsung Display is the obvious partner for anything that bends. The problems listed, corners, sealing and antennas, are real ones, and the antenna problem in particular is not a small engineering detail on a phone that also needs 5G, Wi-Fi, ultra-wideband and satellite connections.

APPDOOK's judgement is that this tells a buyer nothing about any iPhone they could purchase in the next two years. The 2027 iPhone is the product worth watching for a curved display, and even there the reports disagree on how far the curve goes. A panel that replaces the frame entirely belongs in the category of plausible someday, not of planned.
