Which HomePod, Apple TV and HomeView models get Siri AI, and when, as Apple's store hints at the full-size HomePod

Siri AI reaches HomeView and Apple TV 4K from 2021, and later the HomePod mini 2. The first mini is out, and the full-size HomePod is unconfirmed.

Apple has confirmed Siri AI for three of its home devices, HomeView, the Apple TV 4K and the HomePod mini 2, but on three different timetables, and not for every model already in people's homes.

The terms sit in the footnotes of Apple's 13 October press releases. Since then, CNET reported on 14 October that the first HomePod mini would get Siri AI too, and corrected the article the same morning, MacRumors reports. And a line of image description on Apple's own HomePod order page has raised the question of the full-size speaker. Below, model by model, is what Apple has said and what it has not.

The Apple TV rows come from footnote 1 of Apple's Apple TV 4K release, which says Siri AI is available in beta in tvOS 27.2 on the second generation or later. We covered that, and what the new box adds on top, in our report on the $299 Apple TV 4K and the older models it brings Siri AI to. The first Apple TV 4K and the Apple TV HD are out because they did not get tvOS 27 at all. Only the new box has microphones, so on the older two Siri still starts from the remote.

What about the HomePod mini and the full-size HomePod?

The HomePod mini 2 ships on 30 October without Siri AI, which Apple says follows in a free update with no date. The Verge reported on 13 October that Apple confirmed the first mini will not get it. CNET's Jeff Carlson wrote the opposite a day later, then corrected the piece at 10:30 a.m. Pacific to say only the mini 2 is supported, according to MacRumors. Apple's footnotes have never listed the first mini.

The full-size HomePod is less clear. MacRumors noticed on 13 October that the image description on Apple's HomePod order page mentions a Siri AI glow on top of the speaker. That is text on Apple's own site, which makes it evidence of a kind, but it is one line of alt text, it could be an error, and Apple has not commented. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has said Apple plans to update the HomePod eventually, so Siri AI may wait for new hardware rather than reach the 2023 model.

What you need for Siri AI at home

  • On Apple TV and HomePod mini 2, the owner of the home in the Home app needs an Apple Intelligence iPhone or iPad on the latest software, with Siri AI turned on and set to a supported language. Both releases say this in footnote 1.
  • Everyone else in the house does not. Apple says people without an Apple Intelligence device still get Siri AI's world knowledge, richer conversation and better music search.
  • Personal requests, such as messages or calendar, need that person's own paired Apple Intelligence device.
  • HomeView runs Siri AI on its own A18, and MacRumors reads its fine print as needing a paired iPhone or iPad only for personal context and a few extras, such as camera clip search.
  • Language and place: English only, in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, India, New Zealand, Singapore and South Africa.

Our take

The rule that matters most is the one about the home owner. Siri AI on a HomePod or Apple TV is switched on by one person's iPhone, not by the speaker. In a house where the account that set up the Home app sits on an older iPhone, nobody gets Siri AI on the shared devices, even if a teenager has an iPhone 17. Before buying anything for this feature, check whose phone owns the home. Changing the owner is not trivial, and Apple's releases do not explain how.

The cheapest way into Siri AI at home is a box many people already have. A 2021 or 2022 Apple TV 4K gets it for nothing in tvOS 27.2, and having installed enough Apple betas to be wary of the label, we would treat that as a preview rather than a finished feature. For speakers there is no cheap route at all: the first mini is out, the full-size HomePod is a maybe, and the mini 2 arrives without the very feature its release headline promises. Here at APPDOOK we would not pre-order a mini 2 for Siri AI until Apple names a date.

Two costs are easy to miss. Apple's footnote repeats that server-side features carry daily limits and that more access will cost money later, the same usage limits Apple has published almost no numbers for. A shared speaker answering a whole family will reach any such limit faster than one person's phone. And in the EU, where Apple says Siri AI is not initially coming to iOS or iPadOS, the owner requirement means an Apple TV or HomePod mini 2 bought there gets none of it, while HomeView is not sold there at all.

Still unknown: the release date of tvOS 27.2 and of the HomePod update, whether the 2023 HomePod is included, and whether Apple will ever let apps answer through Siri AI on these devices.
