Reports point to six new iPhones in 2027: iPhone 18, 18e and Air 2 in spring, then a glass anniversary Pro

Leaks and reports put the iPhone 18, 18e and Air 2 in spring 2027 and a glass 20th-anniversary Pro in the autumn. Apple has confirmed none of it.

Leaks and reports now describe six new iPhones for 2027: the iPhone 18, iPhone 18e and iPhone Air 2 in the spring, then a redesigned 20th-anniversary Pro and Pro Max and a second iPhone Duo in the autumn.

9to5Mac gathered them on 18 October in a guide for people skipping this autumn's phones. It is a collection of earlier reporting rather than a new leak, so we went back to each original report. They range from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, who has a long record on Apple, to anonymous Weibo accounts and an analyst's note. Apple has announced none of these phones and does not comment on unreleased products.

Which iPhones are expected in spring 2027?

The spring date for the cheaper models is the best-supported claim here. Fixed Focus Digital, a Weibo account, said in April that the base iPhone 18 would launch alongside the iPhone 18e rather than in September, and that Apple would build it with the 18e's cheaper manufacturing processes. MacRumors' release guide, updated on 6 October, puts the iPhone 18, 18e and Air 2 in spring 2027. Apple's September launch is consistent with that: it announced the iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max and iPhone Duo, and no base iPhone 18.

For the iPhone 18 itself, the analyst Jeff Pu wrote in a research note seen by 9to5Mac in August that it gets the A20 chip and 12GB of memory, up from 8GB in the iPhone 17, with 9GB for the 18e. Ming-Chi Kuo, another analyst, had earlier put the iPhone 18 at 9GB, so the two disagree. Gurman wrote in his Power On newsletter on 27 September that he expects every iPhone released in 2027 to use Apple's own modem, the chip that connects to the mobile network, with no Qualcomm part inside.

The iPhone Air 2 has the clearest paper trail. The Information reported in November 2025 that Apple had pulled it from the autumn 2026 schedule after weak sales of the first model, to rework it with a second camera. Digital Chat Station, another Weibo account, said in July that it pairs a 48MP main camera with an ultra wide, and has a battery of about 3,500mAh against 3,149mAh in today's iPhone Air. We reported a Korean blogger's separate claim that the iPhone Air 2 is about 0.4mm thinner than the original; nobody has corroborated that either.

What is coming in autumn 2027?

Bloomberg's Gurman reported on 11 August that Apple's glass-heavy Pro redesign is still planned for 2027, the iPhone's 20th anniversary. That was a day after Edison Lee, an analyst at Jefferies, said supply-chain checks showed it had been cancelled over poor production yields. Gurman describes glass on the front and back that curves into the sides around a metal band, and says a more ambitious all-glass version was dropped early because it could not be built reliably in volume. Fixed Focus Digital added in August that the curved glass will be made with the process Apple developed for the iPhone Air.

Screen sizes of 6.41 and 6.96 inches, a hole-punch camera and a smaller Dynamic Island come from Digital Chat Station. In October we covered a leaker's claim that Apple is waiting on a Samsung panel that wraps around all four sides, which goes further than anything Gurman has said. Apple has not given the phone a name; 9to5Mac calls it the iPhone 20 Pro.

The second iPhone Duo is the thinnest rumour of all. 9to5Mac expects an A21 Pro chip, which is Apple's naming pattern rather than a leak, and no outlet we read has reported anything more specific.

Should you wait for the 2027 iPhones?

For anyone shopping for a base iPhone, the answer is probably yes. The iPhone 17 already sells at $899 in the US after Apple's September rise, and 9to5Mac expects the iPhone 18 to start at the same price; that is its guess from today's pricing, not a report. Adding it up on Apple's US store on 18 October, the 17e starts at $699, the iPhone 18 Pro at $1,199 and the Duo at $1,999. A new base model at the old price would leave a $300 gap to the Pro, with a new chip on both sides of it. Buying an iPhone 17 a few months before that lands means paying the same for the older phone.

Pro buyers face a different choice. The anniversary redesign is the bigger change of the year, but it is about a year away, and a curved glass body is exactly the kind of design that slips or gets toned down, as the dropped all-glass version shows. We reported in September that a teardown found Face ID's infrared camera already under the iPhone 18 Pro's display, so some of the groundwork for a cleaner front is already in today's phone. Someone who keeps a phone for four or five years loses little by buying the 18 Pro now.

On the evidence, APPDOOK ranks the claims in this order: the spring timing first, because Apple's own September lineup fits it; Gurman's anniversary design second, because he has repeated it under challenge; the Air 2 camera third. The weakest is the 12GB figure. 9to5Mac tied this year's price rises to the cost of memory, and Apple's chief executive John Ternus has called the memory shortage a crisis, which makes a 50 per cent memory jump in the cheapest model harder to believe. The first firm evidence is likely to be model names in iOS code or regulatory filings early in 2027.
