Which iPhones support iOS 27? The full compatibility list
iOS 27 runs on every iPhone from the iPhone 11 and second-generation SE onwards. Apple Intelligence and Siri AI need an iPhone 15 Pro or later.
Every iPhone that ran iOS 26 can run iOS 27, from the iPhone 11 and the second-generation iPhone SE up to the iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone Duo.
Apple released iOS 27 on 14 September 2026 and dropped no models this year. Being on the list gets a phone the update and its security fixes. Apple Intelligence, the set of AI features that includes the new Siri AI, has a narrower list, and a few features are limited to the newest phones. We checked every model below against the compatibility list and footnotes on Apple's own iOS page on 18 October.
Which iPhones can run iOS 27?
Every model in this table can install iOS 27. The two right-hand columns show what each one gets on top.

iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, iPhone Air | Yes | Yes |
iPhone 17, iPhone 17e | Yes | No |
iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, 16 Pro Max, 16e | Yes | No |
iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max | Yes | No |
iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus | No | No |
iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro, 14 Pro Max | No | No |
iPhone 13 mini, 13, 13 Pro, 13 Pro Max | No | No |
iPhone 12 mini, 12, 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max | No | No |
iPhone 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max | No | No |
iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generation) | No | No |
Adding up Apple's list, 34 iPhones can run iOS 27. Fifteen of them get Apple Intelligence and 19 do not, and only six can change how Siri sounds. The iPhone Duo is on the list ahead of its 23 October release, when it arrives with iOS 27.1 already installed.
Which older iPhones are left out?
No iPhone lost support this year. The models that cannot install iOS 27 are the ones iOS 26 dropped in 2025: the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR, and everything older. Those three stop at iOS 18, and apps are starting to leave them behind: Microsoft has said OneDrive will stop updating on iOS 18.
That is not what everyone expected. In May, 9to5Mac reported a list posted on Weibo by the leaker Instant Digital that left out the iPhone 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max and second-generation SE. Apple kept all four when it announced iOS 27 in June, as Cult of Mac reported that day. All four share the A13 Bionic, the oldest chip iOS 27 supports. The iPhone 11 launched with iOS 13 in 2019, so by our count iOS 27 is its eighth major version: iOS 13 to 18, then 26 and 27 after Apple switched to numbering by year.
Which iOS 27 features need a newer iPhone?
- Apple Intelligence: the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, every iPhone 16 and 17 model, the iPhone Air and the iPhone 18 Pro family, according to Apple's support page. The device language and Siri language must be set to the same supported language, and it does not work on phones bought in mainland China.
- Siri AI: the rebuilt Siri runs only on Apple Intelligence iPhones and is still labelled beta. Apple's footnote says it starts in English and will not initially be available on iPhone in the EU.
- Custom Siri voice: the option to change how Siri sounds is limited to the iPhone 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max, Duo, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max and Air.
- Home app: describing and searching HomeKit Secure Video clips in plain language needs an Apple Intelligence iPhone and a home hub such as a HomePod mini or Apple TV 4K, and some features also need an iCloud+ plan.
Two limits are covered in their own articles. Apple Intelligence takes up to 8GB of storage, rising to 14GB on some of the newest phones, and Apple's own pages disagree on which models need the larger amount. And the Texture and Grain controls in Photographic Styles ended up on the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo only.
How do I check my model and update?
Your model is shown in Settings > General > About, next to Model Name. The update is in Settings > General > Software Update. An iPhone still on iOS 26 is offered iOS 27 first, with the latest iOS 26 release moved under Also Available, so staying on iOS 26 for a while is still a choice. Treat the update as one-way, though: Apple offers no supported route from iOS 27 back to iOS 26.
Our take
On an iPhone 11 to iPhone 15, iOS 27 is worth installing for the security fixes alone, but expect a different iOS 27 from the one in Apple's adverts. Apple's iOS page leads with Siri AI and the Apple Intelligence features and puts the hardware limits in footnotes, so it is easy to read the page and assume the new Siri comes to every phone on the list. It does not. Siri AI sits behind the Apple Intelligence line, and that line is the one that changes daily use. The custom Siri voice and the new Photographic Styles controls are small things by comparison, and not reasons on their own to buy a phone.
The product names are where buyers slip. The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro sound like one generation, yet only the Pro gets Apple Intelligence. Anyone buying a used or discounted iPhone with the new Siri in mind should treat the iPhone 15 Pro as the oldest worth considering, and check Model Name in Settings before paying.
The leak that got iOS 27 wrong is, for APPDOOK, a warning rather than a relief. Apple cut the XS and XR after seven major versions, and the A13 phones are now on their eighth. There is no credible iOS 28 list yet, but we would not buy an iPhone 11 or second-generation SE today counting on another major update. If you already own one, iOS 27 keeps it current for this year, and the sensible plan is to budget for a replacement before next autumn rather than after.
