Apple released the iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2 release candidates to developers on Monday 19 October 2026, six days after the fourth beta.
A release candidate, or RC, is the build Apple intends to ship to everyone unless testing turns up a problem serious enough to need another one. Registered developers get it under Settings > General > Software Update by choosing the iOS 27 developer beta, MacRumors reports. 9to5Mac says the iPadOS, watchOS and visionOS 27.2 RCs arrived at the same time, and MacRumors reports the macOS Golden Gate 27.2 RC as well. Neither outlet gives a build number, and neither names a tvOS or HomePod RC.
What is in iOS 27.2?
The release candidate carries the features tested over four betas since 16 September. The ones a reader is most likely to notice:
- Siri AI, Apple's rebuilt assistant, in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish as well as English.
- Profiles in the Apple TV app, for households that share one account.
- Group FaceTime Dual Capture, and changes to how Apple Podcasts organises episodes (9to5Mac).
- A black and white Apple Music icon in place of the red one, with blue for the selected tab.
- Anniversary alerts in Call Context, the Phone app feature that shows details such as a booking code when you call a business (MacRumors).
- An alternative, expanded version of the App Tracking Transparency prompt, the request to track you across apps, in the European Union.
On iPad, 9to5Mac points to a new contextual Siri pop-up. On the Mac, MacRumors lists the Siri AI languages and new brightness and volume sliders. The redesigned Health app is not in the release: Apple took it out in beta 4 and, per 9to5Mac, still plans it for later this year.
Alongside the RCs, 9to5Mac reports third release candidates of macOS Sequoia 15.8.2 and macOS Tahoe 26.7.2, the updates for Macs that have not moved to Golden Gate. Apple's notes say only that they carry important security fixes.

When will iOS 27.2 be released?
Apple has not given a date. MacRumors says Apple previously promised the new Siri languages for October and expects the public release before the month ends, possibly next week. We could not find that October promise on Apple's own pages: 9to5Mac's report on the first beta says only that Apple promised more languages soon, and Apple's Apple Intelligence page, read on 19 October, still says Siri AI is available in English to start. When we read Apple's developer releases page shortly after the RCs appeared, it listed no RC, and the newest iOS build there was the 13 October beta 4.
Our take
For most iPhone owners this is the update that matters. If nothing goes wrong with the RC, the build developers have today is the one that arrives on your phone, so there is no reason to join the beta now just to get it a week early.
If you are already on the public beta and want to leave once 27.2 ships, install the final release, then turn off Beta Updates in Settings > General > Software Update. Your iPhone stays on the regular track from there, with no reset needed.
The language list deserves a careful read before anyone in Europe updates for it. Siri AI in French, Spanish and Portuguese does not mean it reaches France, Spain or Portugal: Apple's footnote still says Siri AI will not initially be available in the EU on iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch, as we found when the five languages first appeared in the beta. We expect the gain to go to Japanese and Korean speakers, and to French, Spanish and Portuguese speakers outside the EU. EU readers get something else instead: the new tracking prompt apps may show there.
The timing also tells APPDOOK something about the hardware. The HomePod mini 2 that goes on sale on 30 October runs HomePod software 27.2, Apple says, and HomeView, on sale on 13 November, has Siri AI in beta in HomeView software 27.2, so an RC now is the step that keeps both on schedule. We read a public release before 30 October as likely for that reason, though Apple has not said so. The one thing not to expect is the new Health app, which left the beta on 13 October and is not coming back in this release.
