Apple confirms its 'Pro and tell' event for 28 October in Los Angeles, with new Macs and an OLED iPad mini expected(you are reading this)

Apple has announced an event called 'Pro and tell' for Wednesday 28 October at 10am Pacific time in Los Angeles.

Invitations went to the press on Monday 19 October, according to MacRumors and 9to5Mac, which both reported them within minutes of each other. Apple executive Greg Joswiak posted the invitation artwork on X with the line 'Can't wait to pro and tell next week', a play on show and tell. It is Apple's second launch this month, after the Welcome home event in New York on 13 October that introduced HomeView, HomePod mini 2 and the new Apple TV 4K.

The invitation names no products. When we checked Apple's own events page shortly after the invitations went out, it still led with the iPhone Duo and iPhone 18 Pro event, and Apple Newsroom had published nothing about the event. MacRumors expects an in-person press 'experience' with hands-on time rather than a standard event, and neither outlet says whether it will be streamed.

What is Apple expected to announce on 28 October?

Everything below is reported, not announced. It comes from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, a journalist with a long record on Apple, as relayed by 9to5Mac; MacRumors lists the same products without naming a source.

  • A 14-inch and a 16-inch MacBook Pro with OLED touchscreens, the Dynamic Island cut-out from the iPhone, and a lighter design.
  • An entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro and an iMac with the M6 chip, both said to look like the models on sale now.
  • An iPad mini with an OLED screen, a reworked speaker system and a FaceTime camera in a new position.

There is code behind the touchscreen claim, not only sourcing: the macOS 27.2 beta added touch gestures to the Mac's software earlier this month. OLED, the screen type used in recent iPhones, lights each pixel on its own, which gives deeper blacks than the backlit screens on current Macs and the iPad mini.

What time is the Pro and tell event where you live?

We worked out the local start times from the 2026 clock changes. Summer time ends in the UK and the EU on Sunday 25 October, but in the US not until Sunday 1 November, so for that one week London is seven hours ahead of Los Angeles rather than the usual eight.

Our take

Bloomberg's first date was a day early; Gurman's two-day Los Angeles window held. Dates are when APPDOOK reported each step.
Bloomberg's first date was a day early; Gurman's two-day Los Angeles window held. Dates are when APPDOOK reported each step.

Set against our own coverage, the reporting has held up well. Bloomberg's first report put the launch on 27 October, one day out. Gurman then described Los Angeles creator events across 27 and 28 October, and Apple has now confirmed both the city and the second of those days. That track record is the best reason to take the rest of his account seriously, including the product list above and the 6 November sale date for the new Macs and iPad mini. It is still reporting until Apple says it on stage.

The name is a hint in itself. Two of the four expected products are not Pro models, yet Apple put the word in the title, which we read as the touchscreen MacBook Pro leading the show and the iMac and iPad mini following it. A touchscreen would be a first for the Mac, and the bigger question for owners is how much of macOS changes to suit a finger rather than a pointer, which the event should answer.

The practical advice is short. Anyone about to buy a MacBook Pro, an iMac or an iPad mini should hold off until the event, because the models on sale now are the ones expected to be replaced, and if the reported sale date holds the new ones would be in shops nine days after it. Anyone who bought one of those in the last couple of weeks should look up their return window now. For buyers of the cheaper 14-inch MacBook Pro and the iMac, APPDOOK expects the decision to come down to the M6 chip alone, since both are said to keep their current design, so a discounted current model elsewhere may stay a sensible buy.
